UNC System to Eliminate DEI Offices Under New Guidance
[WUNC] UNC System President Peter Hans has issued guidance to university chancellors to comply with a new policy from the UNC Board of Governors that eliminates diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) offices and emphasizes "institutional neutrality." The guidance requires changes to job titles and responsibilities, avoiding political or social advocacy. Chancellors must submit compliance reports by September 1, redirecting funds from discontinued programs to student success initiatives like mental health and technology proficiency.
Avelo Extends Flight Schedule from Wilmington to January 2025
[WECT] Avelo Airlines has extended its East Coast flight schedule, including routes to and from Wilmington International Airport, through January 7, 2025. Destinations include Fort Lauderdale, Tampa, New Haven, Washington D.C./Baltimore, Orlando, and Philadelphia. This extension offers travelers a chance to book their winter and holiday vacations in advance.

Record Number of New Citizens at NC Fourth of July Festival in Southport
[WECT] At the North Carolina Fourth of July Festival, 109 people from nearly 35 countries became U.S. citizens during a naturalization ceremony. This year's event saw the largest number of new citizens to date. Among them was Nina Zhelev, who fulfilled a dream started by her late husband. The ceremony was an emotional moment for many, highlighting the journey and dedication required to achieve U.S. citizenship.
