News

Coastal low brings heavy rain and strong winds Friday, Saturday

(ACCU) The tropical wind and rainstorm will spread drenching downpours, strong gusts, pounding surf and ocean and back bay flooding northward along the Atlantic coast from North Carolina to New Jersey, southeastern New York and southern New England late this week and this weekend.

Lawmakers debate private school voucher expansion

[WRAL] Expansion of an NC Opportunity Scholarship program that gives money for students to go to private schools is on the table. Right now, it mostly helps low-income families, but they want to make it available for all incomes. They also want to give a lot more money to this program. Some people say it's a good idea because it gives families more choices, but others don't like it because they think it will take money away from public schools. It's a bit of a hot topic and may force Gov. Roy Cooper whether to veto.
