[WECT] New Hanover County has launched READYNHC, a service providing emergency alerts via text. By texting READYNHC to 24639, residents and frequent visitors can stay informed about emergencies, particularly during the predicted active hurricane season. Assistant Director of Emergency Management, Anna McRay, emphasizes the importance of being prepared and having a plan in place.

New VR Lab at UNCW Aims to Boost Innovation and Collaboration

[WWAY] UNCW’s College of Science and Engineering has opened a new Virtual Reality Research and Learning Lab. This multi-department facility features Oculus Quests, 3D printers, and other advanced tools. It aims to foster innovation and collaboration by enabling virtual experiments and studies across various disciplines. The lab offers cost-effective ways to conduct complex research that would be challenging to do hands-on.

Biden Teams Up with 21 States to Modernize U.S. Electric Grid

[NC Newsline] North Carolina is one of the twenty-one states are collaborating with the Biden administration on the "Federal-State Modern Grid Deployment Initiative" to modernize America's electric grid. The initiative aims to increase grid capacity, integrate renewable energy, and lower utility bills. This includes optimizing existing infrastructure with advanced technologies and expediting new transmission projects. The goal is a carbon-free power sector by 2035, which is essential for accommodating growing electric demand and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
