IN THIS ISSUE: Keep an eye on this Supreme Court Tax Case | Foo Fighters in Raleigh

WEDNESDAYS WITH YOU
Good Morning Wilmington!
Hope everyone is doing well and having a good week. I hope you liked the weather last weekend. It looks like we’re going to have similar weather this weekend–only a little colder and hopefully without the late night strong winds and rain Sunday night. We’re looking at a cold but sunny Friday, a mild Saturday and rainy/wet Sunday. Of course all of this could change.
I’ll try to follow up on this Supreme Court tax case (see article below). It may impact the way our tax policies are defined.

UNC doctor sees uptick in children with respiratory viruses
[SOURCE] Local emergency rooms and ICUs are overwhelmed with sick children, particularly those suffering from respiratory illnesses like RSV, rhinovirus, and enterovirus. Dr. Benny Joyner from UNC Children’s Hospital notes a significant increase in cases of acute respiratory failure, causing breathing difficulties in kids. Approximately 30% to 40% of the ICU is occupied by patients diagnosed with RSV or its complications. The hospital also sees cases of rhinovirus and enterovirus, posing risks to infants, young children, and those with underlying conditions. Parents are urged to keep sick kids at home to protect not only them but also immunocompromised children amid the current strain on hospital resources.

How the Moore Supreme Court Case Could Reshape Taxation of Unrealized Income
[Forbes] The Supreme Court is set to hear arguments in the closely watched case of Moore v. United States. Experts suggest it might be the most influential fiscal policy decision in the modern era. The challenge revolves around the concept of "deemed repatriation," questioning whether individuals must realize profits before facing taxes. Depending on the ruling, it could impact pass-through entities and potentially lead to a substantial reduction in federal revenue, affecting future tax policies. Former House Speaker Paul Ryan, involved in drafting the tax law, emphasizes the case's importance in debates over wealth taxes. The decision, expected in 2024, carries uncertainty about its scope and potential consequences.
