Coast Guard and Civilians Rescue Diver 24 Miles Off Bald Head Island

[FOX] On August 12, 2024, Coast Guard and civilian rescuers saved 54-year-old Steve Oatman, a diving instructor, 24 miles east of Bald Head Island. Oatman was reported overdue by his wife after he failed to resurface as scheduled. A Coast Guard helicopter and motor lifeboat crew located him three miles from the initial site, thanks to his highlighter green safety sausage and other safety gear. The preparedness and experience of Oatman played a crucial role in his successful rescue.
