Surf City Seeks Expansion of No-Wake Zone

[WECT] The Surf City Town Council in North Carolina voted to request an extension of the no-wake zone, including areas around Soundside Park and Sears Landing, the Intracoastal Waterway, and surrounding regions. The move aims to address safety concerns arising from increased population and boat traffic over the past decade. Additionally, the council voted to express opposition to a proposed home insurance rate increase by the NC Rate Bureau, arguing that the requested average increase of 42.4% is inequitable, disproportionate, and likely to harm the town and its residents. The resolution will be sent to the Department of Insurance.

MrBeast bought Outer Banks island for $1

[VA-Pilot] MrBeast, the popular YouTube personality, purchased a tiny Outer Banks island in North Carolina for $1 and is now leasing it back to the former owner. The 1,500-square-foot island in the Roanoke Sound was acquired by MrBeast's company, MrBeastYouTube, LLC, from G. Tully Sweet and his wife, Crystal Sweet. The land value is assessed at $800.

Meet Cecil the Goldendoodle who ate $4,000

[Washington Post] Clayton Law, from Pittsburgh, discovered his 7-year-old goldendoodle, Cecil, had chewed up $4,000 in cash. The bills were intended to pay for a fence installation and were stolen during transit from Mexico. The Laws managed to salvage $1,500 and, after patiently retrieving and washing money from Cecil's droppings, increased the total to $3,550. They created a video documenting the process, gaining over 175,000 likes on Instagram. The couple plans to frame a torn bill as a commemorative piece and finds humor in the unusual situation.

Adopt a Pet

Arlo

3 year old mixed breed male
Arlo was a little stray from Bladen County Shelter. He is a very sweet and shy boy. He was adopted a year ago, however, due to unforeseen health issues with his owner, he is searching for a new home. Arlo does well in his crate, and seems to do well with other pups. But no cats, please :) He is waiting with his paws crossed, for his new forever home.
