IN THIS ISSUE: UNCW faces budget reduction, Events at Fort Fisher

MONDAYS TOGETHER WITH

Good Morning Wilmington!
It’s officially “OK” to have holiday lights up AND it’s time to start taking the Halloween decorations down.
With Thanksgiving just days away, you should have your plans figured out. No plans yet or you’re not up for the traditional Thanksgiving dinner, these local restaurants are serving meals for Thanksgiving. I can tell you that we tried Sweet and Savory’s all-you-can-eat Thanksgiving Feast a few years ago and it was delicious! It was so nice just leaving your table without cleanup and coming home to a clean house.
Cheers!

UNCW facing $4 million budget reduction for admitting too many out-of-state admissions
[FOXWILMINGTON] The University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) is grappling with a substantial budget cut of over $4 million for surpassing the University of North Carolina System's out-of-state enrollment limit for the second consecutive year. The Board of Governors meeting on Thursday, Nov. 16, listed the sanction on its consent agenda. Fall 2023 enrollment data reveals that UNCW has exceeded the cap set at 18 percent for out-of-state enrollment, established in 2022. Consequently, the university's budget for the 2023-24 fiscal year will be reduced by $4,102,644, as per Board of Governors Policy 700.1.3. The funds are recommended to be reallocated to the North Carolina Need-Based Scholarship for Public Colleges and Universities, benefiting UNC System students. UNCW Chancellor Aswani K. Volety acknowledged the challenge in predicting out-of-state enrollment and emphasized the institution's commitment to serving the citizens of North Carolina, with 86-88% of its student body typically hailing from the state.
