Seahawk Takes Flight: UNCW Statue Moves to New Nest

[WECT] The Soaring Seahawk statue at UNCW will be relocated from Wagoner Drive traffic circle to Hoggard Hall lawn. This move, scheduled to begin the week of May 20, aims to improve storm drainage, sidewalks, and roadway access for fire trucks and buses. The new location will also provide a safer spot for students and alumni to take photos.

NC Coastal Initiative to Remove Hazardous Abandoned Vessels

[WECT] Efforts are underway to remove 12 abandoned boats from New Hanover County, part of a larger initiative by the NC Coastal Federation, NC Wildlife Resources Commission, NC Division of Coastal Management, and local governments. Funded by state and NOAA grants, this initiative aims to clear hazardous, storm-ravaged vessels from coastal waters, with plans to remove another 40 boats by the end of 2024.
