Surf City Installs New Safety Stations Along the Dunes to Enhance Beachgoer Safety
[WECT] Surf City is installing 39 safety stations along the dunes to improve beach safety. These stations provide information on water conditions and emergency rescue procedures, including flotation devices for potential rescues. Last year, there were 47 swimming-related incidents, and the town hopes these new measures will reduce such occurrences. Currently, 11 stations are installed, with the rest expected soon.

Oak Island Fire Department Uses Drone to Rescue Fatigued Swimmer
[WECT] The Oak Island Fire Department used a drone to rescue a fatigued swimmer near Oak Island Pier on May 16. The drone located the swimmer with an infrared camera and dropped rescue tubes, allowing the swimmer to safely reach shore. The fire department emphasizes that swimming near or under piers is prohibited and dangerous.
