NC Dwelling Insurance Rates to Increase by 8% Starting Nov. 1

[WECT] The N.C. Department of Insurance announced an 8% increase in dwelling insurance rates effective Nov. 1, following a settlement with insurance companies. Initially, the N.C. Rate Bureau had requested a 50.6% increase. Dwelling insurance covers non-owner-occupied residences like rental and investment properties. As a result of the settlement, a hearing on July 22 about the rate dispute was canceled.

NSF Awards $750K Grant to UNCW Professor for Cascadia Earthquake Study

[UNCW] UNCW's Andrea Hawkes, along with researchers from Oregon and Virginia Tech, secured a $750,000 NSF grant for earthquake and tsunami research in the Cascadia subduction zone. Their project aims to enhance hazard maps and public safety by studying historical earthquake behaviors and modeling tsunami scenarios.
