Class-action lawsuit for PFAS

Saturday's Powerball worth $1.5 billion

TOGETHER WITH

Good Morning Wilmington–

It has been brought to my attention that some of the articles that I’m sharing from Star News cannot be seen without a paid subscription. I’m sure this must be very frustrating but I want you to know that I do not have a subscription and purposefully share only articles that I can see without that subscription. I do this thinking you will be able to see them too. It appears that this logic is not working so going forward I will try to avoid sharing articles from Star News and if I do, I will be sure to test the links out on multiple browsers. Sorry about that and a big “Thank you” to the subscriber for pointing this out!

Now on to it. 😀

In politics:

  • Diane Fienstein laid to rest yesterday.

  • Jordan and Scalise both eyeing the Speaker of the House position with Trump considering pitching himself as speaker before congress.

  • President Biden to waives 26 federals laws to allow border construction in South Texas and start restart deportations.

Sports:

  • Dick Butkus, Hall of Fame Chicago Bears linebacker dies of 80 years old. RIP Dick.

  • The NCAA accepted Tez Walker’s transfer waiver on Thursday, making the wide receiver eligible to play for the 14th-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels after the university fought for months to get him on the field.

Local:

  • A federal judge has granted class certification to over 100,000 North Carolina residents who allege Chemours and DuPont llegally discharged toxic wastewater containing PFAS into the Cape Fear River.

  • Deadly invasive snails found in NC. If you see one, you’re avised to document and destroy

  • The newly opened four-mile stretch of the Military Cutoff Rd. extension in Wilmington, North Carolina, has caused unexpected issues just one week after its launch. Originally intended to improve traffic conditions and connectivity, the extension has resulted in increased traffic, accidents, and confusion among drivers, with some failing to adhere to new stop signs.

  • New Hanover County seeking applicants for boards and committes.

As if that’s not enough…In today’s PortCityPulse:

  • Road Maintnance

  • Class action suit

  • $1.4 billion Powerball

Road maintenance

The city of Wilmington has extended its contract with Highland Paving Co. for one more year to fix its streets, which get a lot of wear and tear from daily traffic. This extension has led to a 33% increase in road repairs over the past two years. By investing in road maintenance now, the city hopes to avoid more expensive repairs in the future. They've spent around $3.2 million on this effort. You can check the progress of street repairs in your area on the City of Wilmington's website.

Lawsuit against Chemours & Dupont gets class-action certification

Federal judge rules on a class-action PFAS (forever chemicals) lawsuit against Chemours & Dupont. Each person affected by the contamination can join in the lawsuit. This lawsuit is separate from a lawsuit settled earlier this year for nearly $1 billion.

Saturday’s Powerball worth $1.4 billion

Not a single participant had ticket with all six of numbers pulled. It's the 33rd consecutive drawing without a big winner, dating all the way back to July 19, when a California resident won $1.08 billion.

The jackpot has swelled to whopping $1.4 billion.
