MONDAYS TOGETHER WITH

Good Morning Wilmington!
Welp, the weekend was off to a shaky start when the strongest earthquake in 140 years hit the northeast–affecting parts of New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. Thankfully little damage was reported.
Both of NC State’s mens’ and women’s basketball teams lost to their rivals in the final four. While the loss is a disappointment, what a great exciting run it has been! Congrats to both teams for reaching the final four! Big congratulations to South Carolina’s women’s team for beating Iowa in the 2024 championship game. The men’s championship game is tonight at 9:20 PM ET. Click here for best online viewing options.
As I’m sure you know, today is the day of the total solar eclipse. Here’s a great website dedicated to the eclipse event. If you picked up some solar glasses, be sure to stow them in a container labeled “stuff I’ll never need again until I do”–which apparently will be in the year 2044!
Where will you be during the eclipse? What will be your eclipse soundtrack? Here’s some good ones:
Total Eclipse of the Heart –Bonnie Tyler
Brand Damage/Eclipse –Pink Floyd
Here Comes the Sun –Beatles
House of the Rising Sun –Animals
My personal favorite is Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden.
Wherever you are, enjoy this spectacular event!

New Hanover County Schools Grapple with Rising Crime Rates and School Safety
[WECT] Recent incidents involving the discovery of loaded guns on New Hanover County Schools campuses have raised significant concerns about school safety. These incidents, coupled with a notable increase in crime rates within the school district, have spurred discussions among board members about implementing stricter safety measures. Some members advocate for the formation of a new committee dedicated to addressing school safety issues, while others believe the current safety team is sufficient. The debate reflects the urgent need to ensure the safety of students and staff in the face of escalating crime rates.
Inside UNCW's Randall Library Expansion Plan
[The Seahawk] UNCW is expanding Randall Library to meet the growing demand for student spaces. The multimillion-dollar, three-story expansion aims to enhance study areas, add quiet spaces, and increase technology resources. Completion is expected by fall 2024, offering students improved facilities for collaboration and individual work. Student feedback guided the design process, ensuring the expansion meets their needs. The project includes a new glass bridge connecting the expanded and original buildings, providing easy access and adding to the campus aesthetic.
