Surf City Receives $900K for Flood Prevention as Tropical Storm Debby Approaches
[WECT] As Tropical Storm Debby nears Southeastern North Carolina, Surf City is set to receive $900,000 in grants to combat roadway flooding. This funding will support Phase 4 of their Resilient Coastal Communities Project, featuring nature-based solutions like permeable pavers and bioswales to enhance stormwater management. The goal is to reduce road flooding and improve recovery times after storms. Town officials hope the improvements will be completed by 2025, while residents are advised to prepare for Debby’s impact.

Wastewater Spill Contaminates Pages Creek
[WECT] On August 4, about 2,100 gallons of untreated wastewater spilled into a tributary of Pages Creek due to a sewer main failure in the Bayshore community of New Hanover County. The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority (CFPUA) isolated the affected section and is working on repairs while monitoring water quality in the area.
