Lee Roberts Named Permanent Chancellor at UNC-Chapel Hill After Seven Months as Interim

[WUNC] Lee Roberts has been officially named the permanent chancellor of UNC-Chapel Hill, after serving as interim chancellor for seven months. UNC System President Peter Hans praised Roberts for his calm leadership and deep understanding of the university’s potential. Roberts, previously a finance and real estate executive with no prior academic experience, has received strong support from political leaders and the university community. His appointment concludes a swift search process, and he will focus on campus safety, infrastructure updates, and strategic planning.

Spotted Lanternfly Infestation Confirmed in Forsyth County; Asian Longhorned Beetle a Threat

[NC Forest Service] North Carolina faces threats from the spotted lanternfly and the Asian longhorned beetle. While the Asian longhorned beetle has not been detected in the state, a spotted lanternfly infestation has been confirmed in Forsyth County. Residents with pools are encouraged to check their filters for these pests and report any findings. The spotted lanternfly, native to Asia, damages various plants, including crops like grapes. The Asian longhorned beetle, also from Asia, targets hardwood trees, especially maples, and is present in neighboring states.
