Edward Teach Brewing Owner Arrested in Violent Restaurant Incident

[WECT] Gary Sholar, 49, owner of Edward Teach Brewing, has been arrested and charged with assault inflicting serious injury after an alleged July 23 incident at a Wilmington Longhorn Steakhouse. Police say Sholar was told by staff that feeding his dog at the table was a health code violation. He allegedly responded with obscenities and threw a porcelain plate at an employee, causing a scalp injury and hairline skull fracture that required stitches. Sholar was arrested August 7 and released on a $1,000 secured bond.

UNCW Converts Lounges to Dorm Rooms Amid Record Freshman Class

[WECT] UNCW is welcoming more freshmen than expected this fall—about 200 over its original estimate. To make room, the university is converting dormitory lounges into bedrooms in several residence halls, including Pelican, Sandpiper, Innovation, Keystone, and Cornerstone. Each lounge-turned-bedroom will be outfitted with standard dorm furniture and modified for privacy and comfort. Students placed in overflow housing will receive a $600 discount on room fees. While the accommodations differ from traditional dorms, UNCW says it’s focused on maintaining a sense of community for all new students.
