Hurricane Milton, now an extremely powerful Category 5 storm, has become one of the strongest hurricanes ever recorded, with maximum sustained winds of 180 mph and possible storm surge of 20-feet.

Marine Quest Science Fair Skill Builder Series
THUR OCT 10: 3PM @ UNCW Center for Marine Science
Please note, this is a recurring event that requires registration in full. Payment is for all six sessions.
Time: 3:00 - 5:30 pm
Age: 4th & 5th grade
Cost: $130
Need help getting your child interested and prepared for the science fair? Look no further! The MarineQuest Science Fair Skill Builder series will provide students with hands-on activities showcasing the Next Generation scientific process. MarineQuest instructors will mentor students in selecting a topic of interest, experimental design, and presentation skills. By the time students get home each week, they will be prepared to participate in their school science fair confidently.

October 10 - How to select a topic
October 17 - How to develop a question
October 24 - Experimental design
November 7 - The revision process
November 14 - How to analyze data
November 21 - How to make a poster

Residents Push Back Against Wastewater Treatment Plan in Pender County
[WECT] At a Pender County Planning Commission meeting, a proposed wastewater treatment facility was discussed. Landowner Vince Burgess supports the facility for his sod farm, but locals expressed concerns over water runoff, traffic, and environmental impacts. The commission approved the request 4-2, despite it conflicting with the Pender County Comprehensive Plan. Final approval is set for Nov. 18.
