IN THIS ISSUE: Brunswick County Begins Aerial Mosquito Spraying Amid Beekeeper Concerns | Riggs, Griffin Clash Over Role of Politics in NC Supreme Court Race
TUESDAY TOGETHER WITH YOU
Good morning Wilmington!
What started out as reports that FEMA officials are being threatened by truckloads of militia said to be “Hunting FEMA” in Western NC–later confirmed that an armed man was arrested after threats against FEMA workers.
While the initial report said there was “a truckload of militia that was involved,” Authorities said that they concluded “it was determined that Parsons acted alone and there was no truck loads of militia going to Lake Lure.”
There’s a big difference between truckloads of FEMA-hunting militia and one armed man making threats that’s been arrested. It may take some time to see how serious this threat is. Unfortunately the people of Western North Carolina are the ones suffering from incidents and stories like this.
In today’s Port City Pulse:

Brunswick County Beekeepers Lose Bees After Mosquito Spraying, Await Test Results
[WWAY] Brunswick County is conducting aerial mosquito spraying due to increased mosquito populations after recent storms. While county officials stress the importance of controlling mosquito-borne diseases, local beekeepers, like Samantha Werner, are concerned about the impact on bees and other insects. Beekeepers were given short notice to move their hives, but many say relocation is not feasible. The county is using EPA-approved Dibrom, which is toxic to bees. Residents are advised to stay indoors during spraying to avoid irritation.

Riggs, Griffin Clash Over Role of Politics in NC Supreme Court Race
[NC Bar Association] North Carolina Supreme Court candidates, Justice Allison Riggs (D) and Court of Appeals Judge Jefferson Griffin (R), debated their judicial philosophies and the role of partisanship at a forum. Riggs emphasized judicial methodology, while Griffin promoted originalism. The race could shift the court's Republican majority. Both candidates discussed balancing law interpretation without political bias. Early voting begins on Oct. 17, with Election Day on Nov. 5.
