CFCC Faces Backlash Over Marine Tech Leadership Changes
[WHQR] Cape Fear Community College students and alumni are concerned about the reorganization of the marine technology program, including the removal of long-time chair Jason Rogers. Despite attempts to attend the CFCC Board of Trustees meeting to discuss these changes, students were barred from entry. CFCC President Jim Morton defended the changes and criticized media reports, but students remain worried about the program’s future and lack of transparency.

Over 90 Jobs for Older Adults in SE NC Thanks to $571K Grant
[WECT] A $571,802 grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to United Way of the Cape Fear Area will create over 90 temporary jobs for low-income, older residents in southeastern North Carolina. The funds will support the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), which provides job training and promotes self-sufficiency for older adults in Brunswick, Columbus, New Hanover, Onslow, and Pender counties.

NC Audit Reveals $4M Mismanagement Before Health Merger
[NC Newsline] An internal audit by the NC Department of Health and Human Services uncovered questionable financial activities at Eastpointe Health Services, including unauthorized payments of over $1 million to top executives just before a merger with Trillium Health Services. The audit recommends recouping these payments and highlights deleted emails and backdated contracts as issues that hampered the investigation.
