PCP: TUE JAN 9: Gov Cooper declares State of Emergency

IN THIS ISSUE: NHC Public Library Book Sale | Safe Haven offers support for survivors of domestic violence

TUESDAY TOGETHER WITH

Good Morning Wilmington!

That storm rolling in must be serious as Gov. Roy Cooper declares a State of Emergency in North Carolina. State officials encourage residents to visit ReadyNC.gov to prepare, stay informed and learn how to build an emergency kit.

According to AccuWeather:

Expect very windy with periods of rain and thunderstorms, some severe late; cloudy; storms can bring flash flooding, damaging winds and even a tornado

Want to stay up-do-date with emergency/tornado alerts? The Red Cross has a great Emergency App that offers notifications of sever weather. This will be handy during hurricane season too. Be safe!

I was informed that one of my links from yesterday’s Costco/Sesame partnership was wrong. Here is the proper article which describes Costco’s move to offer outpatient healthcare.

Gov. Cooper declares state of emergency in NC

[WECT]

Governor Roy Cooper of North Carolina declared a statewide State of Emergency in anticipation of severe weather. The order waives restrictions on truck weight, size, and service hours for vehicles transporting essential supplies. Residents are urged to prepare for potential flooding, power outages, and tornadoes. Emergency management teams are on high alert, and officials advise having multiple ways to receive alerts, creating an emergency plan, and ensuring emergency kits are up-to-date. Additionally, people are warned against unnecessary travel and encouraged to follow safety guidelines during the severe weather threat.

Donate (or purchase) extra clothes for a good cause

As the new year begins, many people are decluttering and donating unwanted items to local charities. Safe Haven of Pender, a non-profit aiding domestic violence victims, has experienced an increased influx of donations. The organization's thrift store, a major revenue source, is bustling, leading to a need for more volunteers, especially for donation processing. Safe Haven emphasizes the dual impact of donations, providing affordable clothing to the community while funding crucial resources for their cause. The organization aims to empower survivors of domestic violence to regain control over their lives. To support Safe Haven of Pender or learn more about their services, visit SafeHavenofPender.com.
