New Arena and Hotel Among Top Projects in UNCW’s 2024 Campus Master Plan

[WECT] The UNCW Board of Trustees has approved the 2024 Campus Master Plan, featuring 33 projects, with 18 set to begin within the next 1-5 years. Major plans include a new sports arena and a hotel and conference center. The current Trask Coliseum may undergo renovation or replacement to improve amenities and increase seating. Feedback from season ticket holders and donors will be sought for the arena project. The new hotel aims to meet growing campus visitor needs. The plan is expected to enhance the campus experience and support UNCW’s growth.

Wrightsville Beach Hosts 12th Annual All-Female Surf Competition

[WECT] The Wahine Classic, an all-female surf competition, celebrated its 12th year in Wrightsville Beach on August 3-4. With 70 participants aged 3 to 50 from NC, SC, and VA, the event showcased talent and camaraderie. Delilah Hutchins, who traveled from Costa Rica, won the 18 and up longboard competition. Organizer Jo Pickett founded the event in 2013 to encourage women's participation in surfing and create a supportive community.
