Big news for parents of active kids: Wilmington Rock Gym just announced new Young Aspiring Climbers courses starting this September! Whether your child is new to climbing or ready to level up, this six-week series offers expert coaching, skill-building games, and plenty of wall time. Classes are split by age group—and they fill up fast.

Plastic Ocean Project’s “Sustainable Summer” Aims to Keep Wilmington Beaches Clean
[WECT] The Plastic Ocean Project has launched a “Sustainable Summer” campaign to help reduce plastic pollution in Wilmington’s coastal communities. Participants can sign up online to receive a free starter kit and tips for cutting down on single-use plastics. Several local businesses, including Bowstring Burgers, Lala and Elm, and Folks Cafe, are donating a portion of their August sales to support the cause. Funds will go toward cleanup efforts and environmental research.
Young Aspiring Climbers
Ages 6 to 9–Mondays:
September 1 to October 6 | 4:00 to 5:00pm or 5:15 to 6:15 pm | Cost: $150
Ages 10 to 13–Tuesdays & Thursdays:
September 2 to October 9 | 4:30 to 6 pm | Cost: $250
Looking for an activity for your son or daughter that will challenge them physically and mentally? This 6-week course (18 hours for ages 10-13 / 6 hours for ages 6-9) will teach your kid the basics of climbing, with plenty of climbing time, climbing games, and personal coaching from one of our highly-trained and enthusiastic staff. Option available to sign up for an additional six weeks.

Boating 101: Coast Guard Auxiliary Hosts Safety Course in Supply
[WECT If you plan to operate a boat in North Carolina and were born after Jan. 1, 1988, you’re legally required to complete a boating safety course. The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is offering an 8-hour session on Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation in Supply. The course covers rules, safety prep, emergency response, and state-specific laws. It costs $35 (or $30 each for groups) and could even lower your insurance. Pre-registration is required.
