Netflix Cancels The Waterfront After One Season, Surprising Fans

[ Deadline ] Netflix has officially canceled The Waterfront after just one season, the streamer informed cast and crew, even though the series was a global hit—spending five weeks in the Top 10 and topping the chart with 11.6 million views in its first week. Creator Kevin Williamson expressed gratitude for the experience, though Netflix cited viewer completion rates and social engagement as insufficient for renewal. This decision places The Waterfront in the company of other first-season Netflix cancellations, despite its strong performance.

State Employees Face Higher Health Premiums as NC Seeks Stability Through 2028

[ WUNC ] The N.C. State Health Plan Board of Trustees has voted to raise premiums for many of its 770,000 members, including state employees, teachers, and retirees. Treasurer Brad Briner said the hikes were necessary to address a looming $1.4 billion deficit, citing reserves nearly depleted after years of holding down costs. Premiums will shift to an income-based scale, with workers earning under $50,000 seeing the lowest increases and those above $90,000 facing the highest. While officials argue the move stabilizes the plan through 2028, employee groups call it a pay cut that worsens staff shortages in education and healthcare.

Sad to hear that Netflix canceled The Waterfront. We truly enjoyed watching season 1 which was filmed in so many familiar settings. I guess we’ll never know how Harlan’s wife, Maria will do with taking over the family business. Hopefully Netflix will have a change of heart.
