PCP: TUE AUG 13: Lowes Food at Pine Grove is closing
IN THIS ISSUE: NHCS Settles with Ex-Superintendent Foust
I stopped by the Greenville Loop Lowes Foods on Pine Grove Drive. This store is set to close by the end of August but it may close much earlier. I haven’t seen a store so empty since Hurricane Florence.

I spoke to a cashier about what’s going on. It seems it just isn’t profitable enough to stay open. She said most of the employees will be moving to one of the other stores on College Ave. or Carolina Beach Road. She also said that with the non-perishable inventory will be distributed to the same two stores.

For now, the beer is at a 10% discount and much of the frozen food–specifically seafood/shrimp is 50% off. Still those original prices seem inflated. These discounts may increase as they get closer to closing but most of the inventory is not discounted.

Wilmington Among Five NC Cities Rank Among Best U.S. Rental Markets
[Carolina Journal] North Carolina is emerging as a top destination for renters, with five of its cities—Chapel Hill, Charlotte, Raleigh, Wilmington, and Durham—ranking among the top 20 best places to rent in the U.S. according to RentCafe. The state’s lower cost of living, strong job growth, and robust local economy make it attractive. Average rents in Raleigh and Charlotte are below the national average, while significant apartment construction in Charlotte and Raleigh supports affordability. North Carolina’s appeal is further boosted by its thriving tech and education sectors.
