IN THIS ISSUE: New Hanover Schools Address Title IX Complaints & Future Policy Changes | Wilmington’s First Catholic High School in Over 100 Years Set to Open
Good morning Wilmington!
Last week, tensions ran high as Team USA took on Canada in hockey on Canadian turf. The crowd set the tone early, booing the U.S. national anthem, and tempers flared on the ice with several fights breaking out. In the end, the U.S. came out on top with a 3-1 victory.
Tonight, the rivalry continues with another heated matchup, this time in Boston. Expect an intense, politically charged showdown when the puck drops at 8 PM EST.

New Hanover Schools Address Title IX Complaints & Future Policy Changes
[WWAY] New Hanover County Schools’ Title IX committee met to discuss the impact of President Trump’s recent executive orders on school policies. A student survey revealed that girls and LGBTQ+ students face higher rates of harassment. Since August, over 400 complaints have been filed, though only 78 fell under Title IX. Officials stress the importance of transparency and frequent meetings to address misconduct. While current policies follow 2020 standards, changes may be coming. The district urges students, parents, and staff to report misconduct. The next committee meeting is set for March 10.

Wilmington’s First Catholic High School in Over 100 Years Set to Open
[WWAY] Wilmington is set to welcome its first Catholic high school in over a century. Father Thomas F. Price Catholic High School will open this fall, starting with 9th and 10th grades at St. Mary’s campus before expanding over time. The school, a collaboration between St. Mary’s and St. Mark’s Catholic Schools, is named after Wilmington native Father Thomas Price, the first Catholic priest ordained from the city. Long-term plans include developing a 40-acre independent campus. Applications are now open, with the fee waived for the next month.
