Striking longshoremen at the Port of Wilmington

What's happening at Riverfest this weekend?
[Star News Online] The Wilmington Riverfest, considered Wilmington's biggest fall festival, was first held in 1979. The festival was created by a group of Wilmingtonians interested in showcasing downtown Wilmington and the Cape Fear River.
The two-day cultural street festival will return to downtown Wilmington the first weekend in October.

Cybersecurity and Maritime Trade: A Key Focus at UNCW Event
[WWAY] UNCW's 6th annual Cybersecurity Conference kicked off, focusing on critical areas such as small business protection and maritime security. With over 300 attendees, it’s the largest conference yet. Ulku Clark, director of UNCW’s Center for Cyber Security Education, highlighted the importance of maritime cybersecurity, especially during the ongoing longshoremen strike. Thursday’s sessions will include discussions on AI and deep fakes.

Striking longshoremen at the Port of Wilmington hope for quick resolution
[WUNC] The International Longshoremen's Association (ILA) has called for strikes along the East Coast, including Wilmington, demanding better wages and safer working conditions. Longshoremen at the Port of Wilmington are striking against the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX), not the port itself. Despite an offer of a 50% wage increase from USMX, negotiations remain stalled. North Carolina Ports have implemented contingency plans, including the closure of the container gate, until an agreement is reached.
