PCP Thu Oct 24: October Surprise!
IN THIS ISSUE: Gov. Roy Cooper conversation with Climate Forward, New York Times | UNC Wilmington received a $299,400 grant from the National Science Foundation
Good morning Wilmington!
You know what’s really spooky about an election year Halloween? October surprise! That’s when candidates seem to find skeletons in the closets of their opponents and bring them out for everyone to see with the intention of swaying votes. Yesterday former model, Stacey Williams alleged that Trump groped her after being at a Christmas party in 1992.
Will any skeletons come out to haunt Kamala’s campaign? There’s less than two weeks left in the election we will know soon!

Gov. Cooper on Climate, Elections, and Clean Energy Progress in NC
[NYT Climate Forward] In a recent interview with the New York Times, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper discussed the state's role as a battleground in the 2024 election and highlighted his optimism for Democratic success. Cooper emphasized the importance of climate action and clean energy in North Carolina, noting the recent challenges that Western North Carolina has faced in the wake of Hurricane Helene.
You know in some areas you just shouldn't build back and we've been able to convince certain communities and people that buyouts are better.
He praised bipartisan efforts to advance clean energy, citing the economic benefits for the state. Cooper also stressed the need for long-term climate resilience.
UNCW Launches STEM Initiative with $299K NSF Grant
[UCNW] UNC Wilmington received a $299,400 grant from the National Science Foundation to launch the “UNC-by-the-S.E.A.” initiative, which focuses on advancing women faculty in STEM fields, especially those who are military-affiliated or first-generation college students. The project will use surveys, focus groups, and data from peer institutions to create a five-year action plan aimed at reducing barriers and fostering an inclusive environment for women in STEM at UNCW and beyond.
