PCP Thu Jul 24: Beach Heroes & Tail-Wagging Events in Wilmington

Our beaches are in expert hands—and your heart might be too after meeting some of this weekend’s adoptable pets.

Good morning Wilmington!

Whether you’re headed to Carolina or Wrightsville this weekend, you can swim with confidence—both beach rescue teams just dominated regional competitions in Nags Head. Wrightsville Beach Ocean Rescue took home the South Atlantic Regional Championship title for the fifth year running, while Carolina Beach Ocean Rescue claimed first place in their division. If you needed a reason to feel safer in the surf, this is it.

Congratulations to both teams–you make us proud…and safe!

In today’s Port City Pulse:

  • WB Ocean Rescue Win First Place in Division A

  • CB Ocean Rescue Win First Place in Division B

Wrightsville Beach Lifeguards Dominate Regionals Again—Five Years Running

[Town of WB] For the fifth year in a row, Wrightsville Beach Ocean Rescue (WBOR) has secured the South Atlantic Regional Championship title, showcasing their strength and skill at the USLA competition in Nags Head. The team placed in the top three in 10 out of 14 events, including first place in the Beach Relay, 2K Run, and more. Several lifeguards will now head to the national championships in Huntington Beach, California, this August to defend multiple national titles.

Carolina Beach Ocean Rescue Takes Top Spot in Regional Lifesaving Competition

[WWAY] Carolina Beach Ocean Rescue clinched first place in Division B at the 2025 South Atlantic Lifesaving Association (SALA) Competition, held this week in Nags Head. This annual event draws elite ocean rescue teams from across the Southeast to test their skills in physically demanding lifesaving events, including rescue scenarios and water safety techniques. It’s a proud moment for Carolina Beach and a major recognition of the team’s training, strength, and dedication.
