While New Hanover County opened school on time they are releasing students two hours early. Pender County Schools are operating as normal and Brunswick closed school for the entire day.
In national news - another attempt has been made on Donald Trump’s life. According to his website he is safe and well and nobody was hurt.

Several Wilmington-Area Schools Earn "A" Grades in 2023-24
[Star News Online] The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction has released its annual performance data, with several Wilmington-area schools earning top marks. Schools are graded based on 80% achievement and 20% growth. In New Hanover, Brunswick, and Pender counties, schools like Isaac Bear Early College and Pender Early College High have maintained consistent "A" grades for five years. Notably, Brunswick and Pender counties each have one school receiving an "A" this year.

NC Coastal Towns Awarded $2.8M for Beach and Water Access Upgrades
[WWAY] The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality awarded over $2.8 million in grants to 14 local governments to improve public access to coastal beaches and waters for the 2024-25 fiscal year. Cape Fear towns like Carolina Beach, Oak Island, and Topsail Beach are set to receive funds for ADA-compliant walkways, kayak launches, and land acquisitions, enhancing accessibility. The funding, provided by the NC General Assembly, is part of ongoing efforts to maintain and improve public access to North Carolina’s coastline.
Town of Carolina Beach received $132,322
Town of Oak Island received $32,000
Town of Ocean Isle Beach received $54,000
Town of Sunset Beach received $392,175
Town of Topsail Beach received $350,000

Mysterious Shark Deaths on Masonboro Island Leave Experts Baffled
[WECT] Around 50 Spiny Dogfish sharks washed ashore on Masonboro Island with no clear cause. The North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries found no visible injuries or fishing gear on the sharks, though some had bleeding from their mouths or gills. Captain Trevor Smith suggests it could have been a human-related accident, but natural causes aren't completely ruled out yet.
