Forever Chemicals Found in Beer: Wilmington Region Among Areas Studied

[WECT] A new study from RTI International has detected PFAS—known as "forever chemicals"—in nearly every beer tested, including those brewed in North Carolina. The chemicals, often found in drinking water, are now making their way into beer due to water’s central role in brewing. While no specific breweries were named, samples were taken from counties including New Hanover, with Wilmington’s region showing lower PFAS levels than other NC areas like Chatham County. Researchers stress this is a national issue and urge collaboration between breweries and water utilities to mitigate contamination risks.
