Wilmington Police Offer Free Women’s Self-Defense Classes

The Wilmington Police Department is offering free women's self-defense classes to empower participants and build their confidence. Over 100 women have signed up, underscoring the need for the program. The four-day course focuses on situational awareness and hands-on self-defense techniques, equipping women to handle dangerous situations, regardless of size. Instructor Air Wilkins emphasizes the importance of creating space and avoiding encounters. Many participants leave with new friendships and a sense of community.

[The Brunswick Beacon] Brunswick County Schools and Commissioners are moving forward with plans to build a new school in northern Brunswick County to address overcrowding, purchasing 64 acres near Leland for over $5.5 million. The construction will use the "construction management at risk" method, which provides transparency in bidding and costs. The development company will install utilities and an access road as part of the agreement. This project comes after careful consideration of safety and stewardship of public funds.
