FRIDAY TOGETHER WITH YOU

Good morning Wilmington!

We were treated to a Aurora Borealis light show last night. My son and I went driving west towards Burgaw but didn’t have much luck. We’ll have to catch it next time.

My buddy took these photos in Maryland.

Residents Push Back Against Wastewater Treatment Plan in Pender County

[WECT] At a Pender County Planning Commission meeting, a proposed wastewater treatment facility was discussed. Landowner Vince Burgess supports the facility for his sod farm, but locals expressed concerns over water runoff, traffic, and environmental impacts. The commission approved the request 4-2, despite it conflicting with the Pender County Comprehensive Plan. Final approval is set for Nov. 18.

UNCW Generates $3.2 Billion in Economic Impact for NC

[UCNW] UNC Wilmington has a $3.2 billion economic impact on North Carolina, with nearly half focused in the Cape Fear region. A recent study highlights UNCW’s contributions to job creation, alumni income, and regional spending. Chancellor Aswani K. Volety emphasized the university's role in attracting businesses and boosting local economies. The study shows that UNCW’s influence extends beyond education, enhancing the region’s economic vitality and appeal.

Democrats Accuse Brunswick County of Targeting Their Campaign Sign

[WECT] The Brunswick County Democratic Party (BCDP) alleges that the county violated its First Amendment rights after issuing a "Stop Work" order on a Biden-Harris campaign sign over 6 feet tall. The BCDP claims similar signs supporting Republican candidates did not face such restrictions, despite an alleged 6-foot height limit for signs. The county said the complaint was filed by Code Administration Director Michael Slate, a registered Republican. The county is investigating the matter after the BCDP involved legal counsel to remove the order.
