CAM Secures Highest Recognition from American Alliance of Museums

[WECT] The Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington has received accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums—an honor held by only 1,100 of the nation’s 33,000 museums. The process involved a rigorous self-study, peer review, and site visit, culminating in recognition for CAM’s excellence, professional standards, and ongoing institutional growth. CAM is now one of only 28 accredited museums in North Carolina. The museum’s leadership says the milestone reflects their commitment to stewardship, education, and sustainability.

Former Gov. Roy Cooper Eyes Senate Seat as Thom Tillis Bows Out

[WECT] Former North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper is reportedly planning a 2026 run for U.S. Senate, according to Axios. Cooper, a Democrat who served as governor from 2017 to 2025, could be vying for the seat currently held by Republican Thom Tillis, who announced he won’t seek re-election. With a long career in state politics—including 16 years as attorney general—Cooper’s entry could make North Carolina one of the most closely watched Senate races in the country. The outcome could help determine the balance of power in Washington, as Republicans currently hold a narrow majority in the Senate.
