Part of a $29 million grant, the funding will expand nursing program capacities by 50%. This initiative aims to combat the projected shortage of 18,600 nurses over the next decade. The grant will support new faculty positions, advanced equipment, and initiatives to help more students enter nursing programs.

Governor Cooper Announces Free Opill Birth Control for NC Medicaid Recipients

[CBS 17] Starting August 1st, North Carolina Medicaid will cover the cost of Opill, an over-the-counter birth control pill, making it free for Medicaid recipients. Governor Roy Cooper announced this initiative at a Chapel Hill Walgreens, highlighting its importance for public health. The move aims to improve access to contraception, particularly for those in rural areas or who struggle with accessing medical appointments. Normally costing $20 for a month’s supply, Opill will now be available at no charge, enhancing family planning options and potentially reducing unintended pregnancies.
