Former Edward Teach Brewery Owner Files Civil Suit Against Alleged Assault Victim

Former Edward Teach Brewery owner David Gary Sholar, arrested for allegedly injuring a Longhorn Steakhouse employee by throwing a plate, has filed a civil suit against that same employee. The incident reportedly began when the worker told Sholar feeding his dog at the table was a health code violation. Sholar claims the employee assaulted him first, initiating unwanted physical contact. The arrest came after a police investigation, and Sholar is charged with assault inflicting serious injury, with a $1,000 secured bond. Court proceedings are ongoing.

Local Restaurants Pull Edward Teach Beer Following Former Owner’s Arrest

[WECT] Following the arrest of Edward Teach Brewing’s former owner, Gary Sholar, for allegedly assaulting a Longhorn Steakhouse employee, several Wilmington restaurants have decided to remove the brewery’s beer from their shelves. Sholar, who transferred ownership to a trust controlled by his sister last month, faces serious charges after throwing a plate that caused a hairline skull fracture. Local restaurant owners plan to sell remaining Edward Teach beer for $2 each, using proceeds to help cover the injured employee’s medical and legal expenses. The case is scheduled for a hearing on September 16.

Avelo Airlines Brings ILM’s First International Passenger Route to Punta Cana

[WECT] Avelo Airlines is making history at Wilmington International Airport (ILM) with two new nonstop routes — including ILM’s first-ever public international flight to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. The airline will also launch nonstop service to West Palm Beach, Florida. Punta Cana flights begin Dec. 24 on Wednesdays and Saturdays, while West Palm Beach flights start Nov. 20 on Thursdays and Sundays. Fares start at $57 one-way. ILM Airport Director Jeff Bourk says this milestone has been years in the making and will finally give locals and visitors the convenience of direct international travel from Wilmington.
