PCP Thu Apr 16: Your Saturday Is Booked 🎶 (Porchfest Guide Inside)

50+ artists, porches, and one perfect Saturday plan.

If anyone tries to make plans with you Saturday—just say no.

Or better yet, bring them along.

Porchfest is back, turning a stretch of downtown Wilmington into a live, walkable music and art experience. Over 50 artists and musicians will be set up across porches and yards, making it easy to bounce from set to set and stay as long (or as little) as you want.

It’s casual, it’s local, and it’s exactly what your Saturday needed.

UNCW Moves Forward with Plan for New Medical School

WECT UNCW is seeking approval to begin planning a four-year medical school program aimed at addressing physician shortages in southeastern North Carolina. The proposal includes an accelerated three-year track, partnerships with regional healthcare providers instead of a traditional teaching hospital, and a curriculum incorporating advanced technology and AI, with a final decision expected from the UNC Board of Governors in May.

Property Tax Limits Move Forward in North Carolina House

WWAY A North Carolina House committee has advanced a proposal that could limit how much local governments can increase property taxes, potentially putting the issue before voters as a constitutional amendment. Supporters argue the measure would protect homeowners—especially those on fixed incomes—from rising tax bills, while critics warn it could strain funding for essential services like schools, public safety, and infrastructure. The proposal still requires broader legislative approval before appearing on a statewide ballot.
