Founder of Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue Center, Jean Beasley, Dies at 90
WECT Jean Beasley, founder of the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center in Topsail, passed away on Dec. 2 at the age of 90. A pioneer in sea turtle conservation for more than five decades, Beasley created the hospital in honor of her daughter and built a legacy that protected over 3,000 nests and helped nearly 246,000 hatchlings reach the ocean. Her work transformed the state’s conservation landscape and inspired generations of volunteers and environmental advocates.

Wilmington’s K&W Cafeteria Closes Permanently After Years of Service
WECT Wilmington’s K&W Cafeteria on Oleander Drive has permanently closed its doors. Management cited “lengthy renovations” that made it impossible to continue operations at the location.
