Celebrate unity, resilience, and progress at today’s MLK Jr. Parade.

Good morning Wilmington!

It’s MLK Day in Wilmington. The Martin Luther King Jr. Parade returns this morning, bringing music, movement, and meaning back to the streets of downtown.

Mark Ruffalo-Produced Documentary Explores Wilmington’s PFAS Crisis

Port City Daily Wilmington native Elijah Yetter-Bowman, with actor and environmental activist Mark Ruffalo producing, releases a documentary exploring the Cape Fear region’s GenX contamination and decades-long fight for accountability. The film highlights the impact of PFAS “forever chemicals” from Chemours, legal battles by local counties, and the installation of a $43-million water filtration system. Featuring whistleblowers, scientists, and community voices, the documentary traces the crisis from local exposure to global implications, documenting one of the most significant environmental battles in recent U.S. history.

UNCW Sustainability Team Works to Protect Birds from Glass Collisions

The Seahawk UNCW officials are working to address bird collisions at the library’s new Discovery Hall after students raised concerns about birds striking large glass windows that reflect the sky. Sustainability staff and library leadership are collaborating with designers and project managers to find solutions that preserve the space’s openness while making it safer for birds. So far, a small number of incidents have been reported, but the university is taking proactive steps to track and reduce future collisions.
