Audit Finds $2M in Reporting Errors at USS North Carolina Battleship Commission
[WECT] An audit by the North Carolina Office of the State Auditor revealed more than $2 million in financial reporting errors and significant oversight issues within the USS North Carolina Battleship Commission for fiscal year 2024. The report found failures in reconciling major bank accounts, reviewing financial system access, and approving journal entries, along with multiple misstatements tied to pensions, contributions, and expenses. State Auditor Dave Boliek emphasized that while such errors vary by agency, the findings underscore the importance of strong internal controls. The commission, largely appointed by the governor, is tasked with overseeing the historic battleship’s maintenance and operations.
