FRIDAYS TOGETHER WITH

Good Morning Wilmington!
According to this article, the life expectancy for men in the U.S. has declined from 78.8 years in 2019 to 77 in 2020 and 76.1 in 2022. Of course the COVID outbreak had an influence on these numbers but keep in mind that the outbreak started in late 2019–early 2020. This goes without saying but without the 2020 pandemic we humans (men and women) should be on an upward trend of life expectancy reaching well into our eighties.
According to the article the current life expectancy of men is six years shorter than the life expectancy of women–marking the widest gender gap since 1996. factors contributing to this gap (according to the article) include the opioid epidemic, mental health issues, and chronic metabolic diseases, with men experiencing higher mortality rates from these conditions.
