Olivero’s Co-Chefs Honored as James Beard Semifinalists for Best Chef: Southeast

[Star News Online] Wilmington’s culinary scene is in the spotlight as Olivero’s co-executive chefs, Sunny Gerhart and Lauren Krall Ivey, have been named James Beard Award semifinalists for Best Chef: Southeast. The James Beard Awards, often called the Oscars of the culinary world, celebrate top chefs and restaurants nationwide. Gerhart and Krall Ivey credit their team and community for this recognition. The final nominee list will be announced on April 2, with winners revealed on June 16. Other North Carolina chefs and restaurants also made the list, solidifying the state’s reputation as a top food destination.

Gov. Josh Stein Expands Reproductive Health Protections in N.C.

[WRAL] North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein issued an executive order strengthening protections for reproductive health data and shielding healthcare providers from prosecution for legal abortion services. This move comes just days before President-elect Donald Trump takes office, amid uncertainty over future federal abortion policies. Stein’s order builds on previous protections and signals continued Democratic efforts to preserve abortion access in North Carolina, a key Southern state with fewer restrictions. With Republicans losing their House supermajority, Stein’s veto power could play a crucial role in blocking further abortion restrictions.
