THURSDAYS TOGETHER WITH YOU

Good morning Wilmington!

NHCS Board Talks Teacher Bonuses, Bus Issues & AI for Campus Safety

[WWAY] The New Hanover County Board of Education discussed key topics during their agenda review meeting. The district will receive $800,000 in bonuses for teachers and principals due to high test scores. A committee may be formed to address bus driver shortages. Officials are also working to keep sex offenders away from schools when campuses serve as voting locations. Additionally, an AI security pilot by Eviden was presented, featuring threat detection for weapons, intrusions, fires, and loitering. The AI can recognize individuals on a watchlist and alert authorities within seconds. The board will follow up with more questions.
