Governor Cooper Announces $4 Billion Medical Debt Plan

[WECT] Governor Roy Cooper announced a new initiative to reduce medical debt across North Carolina, providing relief to low- and middle-income individuals. The plan includes discounts, debt forgiveness, and protections to prevent future debt. All 99 acute care hospitals in the state are participating, aiming to eliminate up to $4 billion in medical debt, benefiting two million residents. State leaders emphasize this is a bipartisan effort to address a widespread crisis impacting health and the economy.
