Governor Cooper Announces $4 Billion Medical Debt Plan
[WECT] Governor Roy Cooper announced a new initiative to reduce medical debt across North Carolina, providing relief to low- and middle-income individuals. The plan includes discounts, debt forgiveness, and protections to prevent future debt. All 99 acute care hospitals in the state are participating, aiming to eliminate up to $4 billion in medical debt, benefiting two million residents. State leaders emphasize this is a bipartisan effort to address a widespread crisis impacting health and the economy.

Leland Eyes Stricter Rules for Floodplain Development
[Port City Daily] Leland Town Council is considering stricter floodplain development rules to address increasing flood risks. Proposed measures include prohibiting new homes in flood zones, elevating roads, and adjusting density and impervious surface regulations. These changes aim to reduce property damage, lower insurance costs, and enhance public safety. The council will review feasibility data in February.
