THURSDAYS TOGETHER WITH YOU
Good morning Wilmington. You are probably aware of the tragic incident that occurred lsat night.

A flight carrying 64 passengers bound for Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport crashed into a Blackhawk helicopter carrying 3 soldiers and landed into the Potomac River. The passengers were primarily champion figure skaters including a skating couple from Russia. No survivors have been found or are expected.
Donald Trump posted:
“I have been fully briefed on the terrible accident which just took place at Reagan National Airport. May God Bless their souls. Thank you for the incredible work being done by our first responders. I am monitoring the situation and will provide more details as they arise.”

“The airplane was on a perfect and routine line of approach to the airport. The helicopter was going straight at the airplane for an extended period of time. It is a CLEAR NIGHT, the lights on the plane were blazing, why didn’t the helicopter go up or down, or turn. Why didn’t the control tower tell the helicopter what to do instead of asking if they saw the plane. This is a bad situation that looks like it should have been prevented. NOT GOOD!!!”

New Hanover County Adopts Racial Healing Day Amid DEI Debate
[WECT] At a New Hanover County Commissioners meeting, the Commission on African American History, Heritage, and Culture proposed adopting January 21 as a National Day of Racial Healing. The proclamation passed 4-1, with Commissioner Dane Scalise opposing it. Scalise criticized the county’s DEI department, calling it divisive and advocating for its removal from the budget. Other commissioners defended the DEI office, emphasizing its role in promoting equity and community engagement. The department, with a $631,301 budget, focuses on language access, ADA compliance, and workforce engagement. Scalise’s remarks sparked debate, highlighting ongoing tensions over racial equity and government-funded diversity initiatives.
