NC Home Insurance Rates to Rise 15% Over Two Years

[Carolina Journal] North Carolina homeowners will see an average 15% increase in insurance rates over the next two years—far less than the 42.2% hike originally proposed. Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey negotiated the increase down to 7.5% in both 2025 and 2026, capping coastal increases at 35%. This settlement prevents further rate hikes until June 2027, saving homeowners an estimated $777 million. While Causey called it a win for consumers, the insurance industry cited rising costs due to natural disasters.
