WEDNESDAYS TOGETHER WITH YOU

Good morning Wilmington!

Jimmy’s Wrightsville Beach is teaming up with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s office to collect bike helmet donations to pair with bikes that were donated earlier this year. Helmets are being accepted up until December 15. Helmets can be dropped off at the following locations:

  • Jimmy’s Wrightsville Beach during open hours

  • New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office 24/7

  • King Neptunes on Wrightsville Beach this Saturday from 9AM-1PM

  • Local’s Tavern in Leland

The first 250 bikes that they received were sent to kids in Western North Carolina for the holidays.

You can also donate to Jimmys Bike Drive with Vemno. 100% of proceeds go directly to the purchase of bikes, helmets and transportation costs.

Coyote and Buck Creek Fires: 1,250 Acres, 90+ Firefighters, Growing Caution

[Spectrum 1] Two wildfires in North Carolina, the "Coyote Fire" in Gaston County and the "Buck Creek Fire" in McDowell County, have burned over 1,250 acres combined. Recent rains helped firefighters achieve significant containment: 95% for the Coyote Fire and 75% for Buck Creek. Authorities warn of increasing wildfire activity in the state and urge caution when burning outdoors.

Democrats File Lawsuit Over NC Vote Challenges in Tight Supreme Court Race

[NC Newsline] The North Carolina Democratic Party filed a federal lawsuit to stop Republican-led efforts to invalidate over 60,000 ballots in ongoing election protests. These ballots include votes from overseas and military voters as well as those without certain voter registration details. Democrats argue that such actions violate federal law and constitutional protections. The margin in the Supreme Court race at the center of the dispute is just 734 votes after a recount. Decisions by state and federal courts have previously dismissed similar Republican claims.
