IN THIS ISSUE: IRS Grants Tax Extension for North Carolinians | Carolina Beach Icon Britt’s Donuts Celebrates Opening Day
Good morning Wilmington!
Science fiction, meet science fact. In a story straight out of mythology and Jurassic Park, scientists have resurrected one of the fiercest predators of the Ice Age: the dire wolf. Romulus and Remus aren’t fantasy—they’re living, breathing proof that de-extinction is no longer a theory, but reality.
In today’s Port City Pulse:

IRS Grants Tax Extension for North Carolinians in Wake of Hurricane Helene, Tropical Storm Debby
[News & Observer] In the wake of federally declared disasters—Hurricane Helene and Tropical Storm Debby—all North Carolina residents now have until May 1, 2025, to file and pay both federal and state taxes. The IRS confirmed that every taxpayer in the state qualifies automatically, citing the broad impact of both storms. Additional interest relief is available to those in FEMA-designated counties. Relief extends to businesses, nonprofits, relief workers, and even visitors injured during the events.

Carolina Beach Icon Britt’s Donuts Celebrates Opening Day with Ribbon Cutting
[WWAY] The legendary Britt’s Donut Shop has officially reopened for the summer season on the Carolina Beach Boardwalk. This year’s first-day celebration was extra sweet, coinciding with the town’s 100th anniversary. Locals and out-of-towners lined up early as the mayor and Chamber of Commerce marked the occasion with a ribbon cutting—and the first 100 customers scored a free donut. Britt’s will operate limited hours through May.
