New Entertainment Hub with Bowling, Axe-Throwing & Pickleball Proposed for Midtown
[Port City Daily] A new entertainment center, Strikes, is proposed for 5601 Oleander Drive, featuring bowling, axe-throwing, an arcade, pickleball courts, sports simulators, and two bars. The 40-foot-tall, two-story venue aims to bring more recreational options to midtown Wilmington, bridging the gap between downtown and the beach. To move forward, the project requires rezoning approval. If approved, the center will include family-friendly and social spaces, with a restaurant serving upscale American cuisine. The project will go before the Wilmington Planning Commission on Feb. 5 for review.

New Federal Policy Permits ICE Arrests at Schools, Local Districts Respond
[WHQR] The Department of Homeland Security has lifted restrictions on ICE arrests at schools, prompting concerns from local educators. New Hanover County Schools Superintendent Dr. Christopher Barnes is seeking legal guidance, while school board members voice differing opinions on the policy’s impact. Brunswick and Pender County officials emphasize student safety and privacy laws, while Hispanic and Latino families may be disproportionately affected. Questions remain about what happens if a child’s parents are detained. The policy change aligns with the Trump administration’s push for stricter immigration enforcement.
