THURSDAYS TOGETHER WITH YOU

Good morning Wilmington!

Ever wonder why we carve pumpkins? This tradition comes from an Irish myth about 'Stingy Jack,' who roamed the Earth with a carved-out turnip. When the Irish came to America, they switched to pumpkins because they were more plentiful.

In today’s Port City Pulse:

The Avenue Development Near Mayfaire Moves Forward After Site Clearing

[WilmingtonBiz] After eight years in planning, The Avenue project near Mayfaire in Wilmington is progressing, with developers recently clearing the site. Plans for the $300 million mixed-use development include a luxury Westin hotel and spa, over 500 apartments, and upscale retail and dining spaces. Developers are preparing the land for construction and plan to complete this groundwork by year-end.

Funding Depleted: NC Residents Hit by PTC 8 Await SBA Aid

[WECT] The Small Business Administration (SBA) has exhausted funds for disaster recovery after extensive damage from Hurricane Helene across six states. This depletion leaves homeowners and businesses affected by Potential Tropical Cyclone 8 in North Carolina without immediate SBA assistance. Although the SBA is requesting additional funds from Congress, an emergency session was denied, delaying aid until after November 12. Meanwhile, state agencies are offering support, and the SBA encourages people to apply now to secure a place in line.
