THURSDAYS TOGETHER WITH YOU

Good morning Wilmington!

I hope everyone is doing well. I know many people are hurt and distraught while others are excited for the future. I hope we can stay together as a community. Four years is a long yet a short period of time–yet it only takes a few minutes to leave permanent scars on a relationship that may have taken years or a lifetime to build.

In today’s Port City Pulse:

3,400 Ballots Remain Uncounted in New Hanover–Key Wilmington Races Hang in the Balance

[WECT] Nearly a day after polls closed in North Carolina, more than 3,400 ballots remain uncounted in New Hanover County, potentially altering the results of several tight races. This includes 1,500 absentee-by-mail ballots and over 1,900 provisional ballots. Commissioner Jonathan Barfield, currently trailing by just 250 votes, emphasized that “this is not over.” The results of these uncounted ballots could impact not only the county commissioner race but also the school board elections, where the difference between candidates is close. The outstanding ballots are scheduled for counting on November 14, a day before the official vote canvass.

Election officials and WECT are investigating why 1,500 absentee ballots were not counted on election night, despite state guidelines indicating they should have been. This discrepancy could be significant as races remain undecided.

Bittersweet news shared by the writers of Outer Banks to their fans: There will be a season 5 but that will be the last

Dispatch to all Pogues:

Seven years ago, in the summer of 2017, we came across a photo of teenagers on a beach at dusk during a power outage. That photo sparked an idea for a story of four best friends who only want to have a good time all the time. From this beginning, we imagined a mystery that would lead to a five-season journey of adventure, treasure hunting, and friendship.

At the time, seven years ago, it seemed impossible that we would really get to tell the whole five-season story, but here we are, at the end of our fourth season, still chopping away.

The fourth season was our longest and hardest - but most rewarding - to produce. The season ends with a feature length episode, which we think is our best, most powerful episode. We hope you feel the same way.

Now, with a little sadness, but also excitement, we're putting Season Four behind us, and are turning to Season Five, in which we hope to bring our beloved Pogues home in the way we imagined and planned years ago. Season Five will be our last season, and we think it will be our best yet. We hope you’ll join us for one more paddle out to the surf break.
