MONDAYS TOGETHER WITH YOU
Good afternoon Wilmington!
My family and I visited family in St. Simons island in Georgia this weekend. Great visit in a quaint town. The live oaks and Spanish moss providing shaded canopy over the roads reminded us of home. On the way back I learned about how Savannah, Georgia was offered as a Christmas gift to President Abraham Lincoln.
In December 1864, Union General William Tecumseh Sherman captured Savannah, Georgia, during his famous "March to the Sea." He sent a telegram to President Abraham Lincoln, offering the city as a Christmas gift, along with weapons and thousands of bales of cotton. This victory dealt a major blow to the Confederacy, boosted Union morale, and helped secure Lincoln’s political support during the final stages of the Civil War.

Honeybee Cafe Rebuilds After Hurricane Helene, Finds New Home in Wilmington
[WWAY] After Hurricane Helene devastated their KOA Campground in Swannanoa, Ted Caudle and Jessica Haugan relocated their Honeybee Cafe coffee truck to Wilmington. Now operating at Biggers Market, the couple has received strong community support but highlights slow state recovery efforts. They recommend donations to the Cajun Navy for western NC relief. Lawmakers have passed SB 382 for hurricane funding, but distribution plans remain unclear.

Food Deserts Deepen After Helene—Relief Efforts Ramp Up
[Carolina Public Pres] Tropical Storm Helene has worsened food insecurity in Western North Carolina, leaving many without access to grocery stores and farms devastated. MANNA Foodbank, which lost its Asheville facility, relocated to Mills River and distributed 900,000 pounds of food in November. Smaller organizations are also stepping up, using ATVs and donkeys to deliver supplies to isolated areas. Food Lion and Mission Health donated funds to support relief efforts, but long-term solutions are needed as unemployment and high costs strain rural communities.
